The golf course and the restaurant are open for the season. The course is in fantastic shape! Take advantage of the lower crowds in the early part of the season.

Don't miss putting Apple Valley, one of central Ohio's premier golf courses, on your 'must play' list for this season. Apple Valley was voted as the #1 favorite public golf course in central Ohio by users of the Columbus Clubhouse golf internet community (www.cbusclubhouse.com). Come see why! We're always in great shape and get rave reviews from our players.

Our Stay and Play weekends are extremely popular for a good reason. You can park your car at The Pines Cabins - right beside the golf course - and not have to get back in it until you leave. No hotel to drive to. Just walk across the parking lot to the clubhouse and #1 tee. Everything you need from golf to breakfast to lunch and more is right here on site. No driving required. We are the extremely convenient for stay and play trips. Be aware some weekends are already heavily booked. Saturday, June 8, there are no times open. Start planning early for your trip to Apple Valley.

Email info@applevalleygolfcourse.com with the dates you want to play and how many players you'll have. See our convenient form under Stay and Play. Call The Pines Cabins, next door to the course at 740-202-9798 and check on availability. Or check out private homes in Apple Valley at vrbo.com or airbnb.com. Book your accommodations and we'll book your tee times! Click here https://www.applevalleygolfcourse.com/stay/play for more info. The Pines Cabins is under separate ownership than the golf course. You must reserve overnight accommodations yourself through them.

IF YOU BOOK TEE TIMES ONLINE, USE OUR SITE and not a third party where you will pay a booking fee. You NEVER pay a booking fee by using our site to reserve your tee time nor do you prepay or incur any charge. We use credit cards strictly to HOLD the tee times and to avoid no shows. Don't waste your money elsewhere when you can book with us for FREE.

A Heritage of Pride

history-photoIn the early 18th century an American pioneer nurseryman wandered through PennsylvaniaOntarioOhioIndiana, and Illinois, as well as the northern counties of present-day West Virginia planting apple trees and orchards. That man, John Chapman, was to become better known as Johnny Appleseed and was the inspiration for the naming of Apple Valley and the Apple Valley Golf Course.

Opening in 1972, the Apple Valley Golf Course emphasizes the natural beauty of the Central Ohio Region that Johnny Appleseed so loved, providing golfers of all skill levels an intriguing mix of challenge and satisfaction. In short, Apple Valley is everything a good golf course should be. This is largely due to the efforts of architects Bill Newcomb and John Robinson and to the love and care of the Mickley family who have operated the course since 1982.

As Apple Valley's reputation grew and spread, it came to be famous not only as top-tier public course, but also as a premier competition course. In 1977, Apple Valley hosted the Division 3 NCAA National Championship, and is also home to Ohio’s Division 1 High School Regional Championship as well as the Ohio Public Links Championship.

Through the years the Mickleys have been good stewards of the gift Newcomb and Robinson gave to the golfers of Ohio. They’ve done this by maintaining the course in excellent condition, attracting top competitions and continuously improving facilities. In 2002 a beautiful new clubhouse was added that gives Apple Valley the ability to host and entertain groups at a level far above the average public course. Although the course has changed over time, some things remain rock solid: unbeatable golf, gorgeous scenery and the pride the Mickley family takes in maintaining the best course in the area. If Apple Valley is new to you...come fall in love.

Visionary Design, Superb Results

Architects John Robinson and Bill Newcomb have sculpted the picturesque, rolling beauty of Knox County, Ohio into a first-rate course that will test your mettle. Nestled in some of the most inspiring scenery in Ohio, this top rated, immaculately conditioned golf course offers nearly 7,000 yards of gentle hills and lush fairways that combine to create a unique golf sanctuary that will reward and challenge you at every shot.

These renowned golf course architects have earned reputations as great designers who love the game. This fact is evident in all of the courses they’ve built in the U.S. and Canada, but nowhere more so than at Apple Valley. Here they perfectly employed their philosophy of creating a course that is beautiful, strategic, and at one with its setting. They succeeded in creating a course that requires careful thought as well as skillful play, but didn’t neglect to give golfers of all skill levels something to encourage them.

Newcomb knows the game intimately as a player as well as an architect. He played the Master’s as an amateur and coached the University of Michigan golf team. Other Newcomb designed courses include: Fox Run Golf Links, Greenbrier Golf and Country Club, Spruce Run at Grand Traverse Resort, Calderone Farms, and Thornapple Point.

Robinson’s eye for strategic play and passion for natural harmony are evident at Apple Valley. His devotion to golf and to creating pioneering designs has earned him a ranking as one of the top 50 golf course architects in the United States. Some of Robinson’s other courses include: Hawk’s Eye Golf Club, Carroll Meadows Golf Club, and Hollinger Golf Club.

Since it's debut in 1972, Apple Valley's Championship Par 72 course has enchanted golfers of all skill levels, offering a blend of challenging obstacles with beautiful 5/8" bluegrass-bentgrass fairways and 4 Star Rated Layout as awarded from Golf Digest.

Approaching the Par 4 dogleg-left first hole, the elevated tee will give you a stunning, wide open vista that allows beautiful views of the first green and parts of several other holes. When you watch your ball sailing out into the generous fairway, you’ll know why Apple Valley has no real competition in the area.

Prepare yourself for the delightful challenge of the Par 3 fifth, ranked the favorite Par 3 in Central Ohio by readers of Mid Ohio Golfer. Deceptively simple in terms of yardage, this 140 yard hole is approached over a lake from an elevated tee, and the green is flanked by bunkers, barnstones and majestic pines. Mark Mickley, Director of Golf, rates this hole as one of the most rewarding holes on the course. Hit it well, and you‘re looking at a birdie. If you raise your head you better get your scuba gear if you want your ball back. Remember, fortune favors the bold. According to Mickley, the eighth hole is probably the toughest. With a fairway that slopes toward the rough and trees on the right side and a slightly down hill dogleg right at about 150 yards, you’d better be wearing your game face when you tackle the stretch of holes from 8-11 of what some golfers call "The Amen Corner of Apple Valley".

The abundance of spacious landing areas will entice golfers to hammer the ball from the one of Apple Valley’s four tees that best suits their game. The generous fairways are intoxicating, but don’t let them lull you to sleep, as towering trees loom and water guards approach shots to many of the greens. Once you’ve made the greens, you’ll be rewarded with gentle slopes that are lightning fast. You won’t face many bunkers on the fairways, but nearly all the greens are protected by a variety of bunkers that range from deep faced to putt-able. The open entrances that most of our greens have allow for a variety of run-up shots that will please aggressive and cautious golfers alike.

Open from April through November, you’ll always find Apple Valley impeccably groomed and cared for. Spring can find some wet conditions, but the course is nurtured so well you won’t be bothered. Summers are beautiful and fall brings views and weather that are worth the green fees in and of themselves. If you haven’t yet played Apple Valley, you’re in for a treat when you finally do.
